Shelf Life: Episode 7

Reviving Roslyn, E.A. Shanniak

5/5

This is a very unique story. Hands down my favorite in the Zerelon novella series. Roslyn isn't like other girls. She has a speech impediment that makes her less than desirable. She never thought she'd have a chance at love because she's been told that men won't want her, in case she could pass her impediment down to their offspring. Then, when she's thrust into a kidnap attempt and comes face to face with a prince, everything looks like it could change. Too bad his family doesn't feel the same way. Love, love, love this book!!! Couldn't put it down and I almost cried because I thought Shanniak was going to rip my heart out via a fox and pup.

Ring of Fire, Pixie Chica

Romance

New Adult

4/5

Chica has a way of writing the ultimate alpha males. Leo is no exception. When he meets the wild child heiress it’s love at first sight. Only problem? She doesn’t want to settle down and he tries to force her to. I subtracted a star because of the dubious consent aspect of one scene. But over all this was a great insta love romance.
The book takes place in and around Sweetville, a town Chica uses for her sweeter romances. As implied by the series title,   however, this isn’t just a Sweetville book. It has steam. The sex scenes are not overly explicit. There is actually no “on-screen” sex. The steams comes from Leo’s thoughts towards his girl.

The Alpha’s Son, Penny Jessup

4/5

I debated whether to rate this 5 or 4 stars.  I loved the tug and pull in this book but it was incredibly drawn out. At times it felt too drawn out. At halfway through the book, our main lovers just realize that they're meant to be together...and that's not even the climax of the story. I'm a fan of Slowburns, and I thought this book was perfect until the end. I wanted to pull my hair out. Jasper is such an A-hole at times and I worry about how the slow-burn element will continue into the second book. If executed correctly, the second book could make this ending completely worth it, but if not...then the ending is for nothing. Jessup is playing with fire here and dangling her readers' hearts over it.

Such sweet torture.
