Murder at the Manor: July Book the Month
Who-dun-it meets Scooby Doo and a murder mystery party in July's book of the month. I've had Corbin Manor, by KR Hall, on my to-be-read list for months and I couldn't be more pleased with it's story.
Corbin Manor is an old building with a past full of blood shed. The Amazon synopsis says:
You are cordially invited to dinner...and a murder!
Corbin Manor was built in the early 1900s; it has been the silent witness to so much life, the good and bad. The legend of Corbin Manor is that it has been haunted by at least a dozen occupants who have died inside the house.
Earlier in the evening, there had been an elegant dinner party hosted by the new owner of Corbin Manor, Miss Joanna Hart. The dinner guests were most notably all women.
A woman has been murdered while visiting Corbin Manor.
It’s up to detective Michael Jon Donahue, his assistant detective Oscar Masters, and his psychic assistant Bianca Vandenberg to find her killer before the murderer strikes again.
KR Hall is the author of 13 books. She specializes in shifters and mystery stories.Corbin Manor is the second book I've read by her, though I own almost all of her works in ebook. She's a repeat author on my TBR, meaning my goal is to read all of her books.
Hall has been writing since 2017, according to her Amazon author profile, and she told me that many of the names in Corbin Manor came from her friends. Her friends were excited to be part of one of her stories and she told them that some of them would end up being killed off if they where in Corbin Manor, but they still wished to be apart of it. After all, who wouldn't want to be in a book?
As for my review of Corbin Manor, I can honestly say I didn't see a single element that I would want changed. As a reader, I found the story thrilling. As a writer, I was impressed by Hall's ability to keep so many murder details straight in her mind. It's easy to forget little things while writing, sometimes.
I gave Corbin Manor five black hearts. This story was the book I was looking for and was having trouble finding. I'm a sucker for a good paranormal mystery.
Based in a haunted manor, women are being murdered. Murder is the manor's history, so it's not surprising. However, when cops and a psychic are called to the scene they realize things are not always as they appear. With ghosts interfering, can they solve the current murders at hand? Or will the murderer kill them all before they're caught?
This is a light hearted murder mystery with a paranormal twist. Kind of like Scooby Doo meets a murder mystery party. It's interesting, engaging, but not too frightening. I loved this book. I'm actually looking at getting a signed copy.
It's usually a task for me to find good paranormal mysteries but this one blew all others out of the water. Even though it's a spoof, it still keeps you guessing until the very end.
